The Lesbian Cliché

Updated: Mar 9, 2020

Alreet!

Welcome to our blog, where we share stories about our experiences of travelling and some handy tips to help you achieve your travel dreams along the way.

A little bit about us.......

We are Rachel and Maegan, a southerner and a northerner from the U.K. Currently living together in Newcastle upon Tyne. We actually met in a boring way, by bumping into each other at a bar in the early hours of the morning. We spent all night talking rubbish together, and realised we had a lot in common.....I guess the rest is history after that! We've been together now for one year six months, and in lesbian terms that's a whole life time. Enough time to get the cat, the house and start looking at adoption.

No I'm joking... but honestly it happens!! We've seen it with our own eyes! Instead of all these typical things lesbians do when they get in a 'serious' relationship, we opted for travel. We booked the trip of our dreams within six months....... I know...... we literally live up to the cliché. Friends and family told us to our faces we were crazy, but we kept planning and saving. We even had friends go completely silent when we told them, no excitement to be seen - just dead pan faces; still we kept on. Time was getting closer and the days left to leaving got down to single digits.

Don't get me wrong; we worked hard at it to get the money doing jobs we hated. So when the day came people were extremely shocked we were still going through with it. Once we were left in that airport together, I think even we struggled. Staring at each other with terror and fear. "Do you think we will make it?" was a question we asked ourselves a few times before we boarded that long 17 hour flight.

But it turned out we were right to go. We had the most fantastic holiday of our lives. We came back, having made it through stronger than we were when we left. I know I make it sound like an endurance test - but travelling really makes you see yourself and each other in a different light. It really puts pressure on you as a solo traveller, never mind as a couple. But it can be done.....

I guess I'm saying if there are any other "crazy" lesbian couples out there who believe in what they have together, then I'm saying go for it... but don't hold me accountable.

Howay, hoyin' oot time.
